SERVICES AND GATHERINGS THIS WEEK

SUNDAY – Service is at 10 am. If you are unable to attend the service is live streamed. Links to the service and order of service are on our website stjamesdundas.ca and our Facebook page.

WEDNESDAY – COMPLINE - Compline is a short service of night prayer. The heart of Compline is the recitation of several psalms. There is a short reading from scripture, intercession, and time for reflection. It is a beautiful way to close out an active day. Compline is offered by St. James’ through Facebook as a way to bring the community together. If you cannot join live, the service is available afterwards on St. James’ Facebook channel.

THURSDAY – Coffee Hour has now been transferred to Sunday after the regular service. Anyone still there after an hour gets a special privilege.

THE BLESSING OF “EMERGING ANGEL”

Canon Peter Davison blessed the gorgeous sculpture created by Wayne Allan and donated to St. James by Sheila Russell. The name for the sculpture was created through a request to parishioners and the one chosen was “Emerging Angel”, submitted by our own Sue P. The sculpture will be situated in the baptistery.

A SMILE OR TWO… or more …. FOR THE DAY

A quote from Billy Graham….

The Lord answers my prayers everywhere …. Except on the golf course.

And, since it is golf weather, a great line from Jack Benny – Give me golf clubs, fresh air and a beautiful partner and you can keep the clubs and the fresh air.

Why do people use big words just to make themselves sound perspicacious?

A VERY SUCCESSFUL PLANT SALE

On Saturday, individuals picked up the plants that they had ordered in advance. Many thanks to Barry, Frank, Terese, Anne, Peter, Beth, Luke and Auntie Jill for their assistance.

Next plant sale??? The fall mums!

AND… A REFLECTION …. FOR THE WEEK

Adapted from the Parish Mission Action Plan Process document ….

Why is the diocese focusing on being missional?

Research shows that churches who have a missional focus [more about that later] are growing faith communities. These communities are marked by:

  • People readily sharing their stories of how God’s unconditional love and the Way of Jesus has transformed them;

  • An openness to hospitality that embraces and upholds seekers, questioners, neighbours and strangers in language they understand;

  • “porous” walls that facilitate the flow of parishioners out into the world … and … community members are drawn into the church to experience a sense of belonging and affirmation … sharing strengths and gifts, and a recognition of and respect for the image of God in everyone;

  • Spiritual practices that ground risk taking and trust sharing in response to the voice of the Spirit;

  • Stewardship of space, place, gifts and treasures … and the responsibilities of car that accompany these gifts;

  • Intentional and diverse pathways that invite and enable people into a deeper relationship with Jesus and with God through which people become their most authentic selves, deeply immerse in God’s fullness of life.
