Monday Afternoon Games

St. James' 50th Holiday House Tour is on Saturday December 5th!

As you prepare your late-summer and fall canning and preserves, set some jars aside for sale at the Holiday House Tour Market. Please bring your donations to the Church Office. Thank you.

WEDNESDAY

COMPLINE – 9:15p.m. Compline is a short service of night prayer. The heart of Compline is the recitation of several psalms. There is a short reading from scripture, intercession, and time for reflection. It is a beautiful way to close out an active day. Compline is offered by St. James’ through Facebook to bring the community together. If you cannot join live, the service is available afterwards on St. James’ Facebook channel.

Can you hear me now?

Lynne and I attend the Hamilton Third Age Learning at the Westdale Theatre in Hamilton and I have been impressed with the new hearing-assist program that the Theatre has implemented. I put the Corporation in touch with the company that implemented the hearing program at Westdale and they came and did a small demo at St. James. It was WONDERFUL!!!!

For the first time in several years, I could actually hear what was coming from the microphones in the church; the sound was sent to my hearing aids DIRECTLY FROM THE MICROPHONE (as well as being audible for everyone else through the speakers in the Sanctuary). No static … no background clutter … just what was being said from ANY of the microphones that are used.

The company will be coming to St. James to demonstrate this technology on Sunday September 20th during church. We need YOU to help make a decision by attending, wearing your hearing aids and bringing your cellular phone. Please let me, Terese Herron or any of the wardens know if you will be attending. YOU can help your Corporation to make a decision on this significant development for our parish family.

A Note of Welcome from our New Music Director

Hello everyone! My name is Lina Li and I am delighted to serve as your new Music Director. I’m a collaborative pianist, vocal coach, music educator, and choir conductor, and I’m very excited to share my love of music with the St. James community.

Music has always been an important part of my life, and I believe that singing together is not only a beautiful way to worship, but also a wonderful way to build community and friendship. I look forward to getting to know all of you and to making music together as we worship God.

Our choir needs more voices! You don’t need to be an experienced singer—just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn. This year we will rehearse weekly on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 pm, and Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 9:50 am. I hope you’ll consider joining us. I’m looking forward to a wonderful year of music, worship, and fellowship together at St. James!

The Season of Creation is the annual Christian celebration to pray and respond together to the cry of Creation. The ecumenical family around the world unites to contemplate and care for our common home, the Oikos of God. The Season’s “Celebration” begins on September 1, the day that several Christian denominations celebrate as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. It ends on October 4, the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, who is beloved by many Christian denominations. This year, we will unite around the theme “Living Water”, with the symbol “Immersion in Living Water”, inspired by Ezekiel 47: 9 and 12.

Hello Friends at St. James Church,

My name is Felicia. I am contacting you on behalf of the Dundas Museum. I wanted to personally invite you and your colleagues to join us for a KAIROS Blanket Exercises, led by Burning Stone Ministries, as we mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The Blanket Exercise is an interactive educational program that explores the history and ongoing impacts of colonization in Canada. It will take place on Monday, September 14 from 3 - 5 pm at the Dundas Museum.

Before sharing the invitation more broadly with the public, we’re reaching out personally to local nonprofit leaders and staff. We know it can be challenging to find time for professional development, so we wanted to create an opportunity for our local nonprofit community to learn and reflect together. We all have a shared responsibility to truth and reconciliation, and we hope you’ll be able to join us!

The event is free, and refreshments will be provided. Feel free to share this amongst your colleagues and church members!

We have discovered that there is a sizable gap in our House Tour photograph archives! Can you help us? Barry Shimmons has found that we have no photographs for the 1981 and the 2006 to 2022 House Tours.
