PARISH NEWS - 15 November 2020

As cases of Covid-19 increase in our area and as of Monday this week Hamilton moves into the ‘Red’ zone of provincial restrictions, we continue to be vigilant and shape our lives together in care and caution as a church.

  • Please remember to reserve your place before attending church and to self-screen before you come. Wear your mask, wash and sanitize your hands regularly. Keep physical distance. Remember not to sing during worship.

  • Please take special care and consideration of your health if you are in one of the groups considered ‘vulnerable’ by Public Health. This includes those who are “older adults”, at risk due to other medical conditions or who have a compromised immune system.

  • Please do not come to the church building except by appointment. All meetings are now online-only.

STAYING GREEN- ADVENT CALENDAR

As we continue to seek ways to care for God’s creation during this difficult time, attached to this email you will find a consumption free seasonal tool that will remind us daily of the need for our continued care for our Mother Earth. Please share it widely with friends and family!

I share it with you with this prayer...

Creator in Heaven,

May we take these daily habits into the new year so that with all of our combined efforts,

our Earth can be given a break.

Help us and bless us in our efforts to have our voices heard during these overlapping crises.

May we be strengthened in all your goodness Lord, Amen.

Carleon Hardie (St. James Greening Coordinator)

AUCTION!

Our PHONE AUCTION will be held on December 5th 2020 1pm-4pm.

This is how it works:

· Check out our catalogue via the link on the front page of our website.

· On the day, call the number beneath the item, to bid between the hours of 1-4pm.

· If you are outbid we’ll call you back to see if you want to increase your bid!

· At 4pm the winners will be decided and we’ll arrange to either drop your item off or to have you collect it from the church.

This is how you can help:

· SHARE the catalogue widely with friends, family and neighbours, especially via email.

· BID!

CHRISTMAS FAMILIES

This year we are once again supporting a number of families through Saint Matthew’s House to help provide gifts for children and food cards to support them through this difficult time. Around the church you will find STARS which tells you the age of a child and the preferred gift item. By taking a star you are agreeing to purchase that Item and return it to the church by 9th December with the star attached. You can also make a financial donation- drop off an envelope or cheque to the church clearly labelled ‘Christmas Families’. If you would like to take a star but can’t come to church, please call Jackie Donnelly on 905-627-5178.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK

God of the universe, We thank You for Your many good gifts – For the beauty of Creation and its rich and varied fruits, For clean water and fresh air, for food and shelter, animals and plants.

Forgive us for the times we have taken the earth’s resources for granted and wasted what You have given us.

Transform our hearts and minds, So that we would learn to care and share, To touch the earth with gentleness and with love, Respecting all living things.

We pray for all those who suffer as a result of our waste, greed and indifference, And we pray that the day would come when everyone has enough food and clean water. Help us to respect the rights of all people and all species And help us to willingly share your gifts Today and always. Amen.
