St. James' 50th Holiday House Tour is on Saturday December 5th!

Attention St. James' musicians.  We are looking for musicians who may be interested in performing at one of the homes on the Holiday House Tour.  Past guests have commented that live music along with a beautiful home and Christmas decor adds a special touch to the tour.  We are fortunate this year to have two homes with grand pianos.  In past years, volunteer musicians included violinists, harpists, and pianists. We are seeking new members for the Holiday House Tour Committee.  Some members are ready to retire after many years and would love to work alongside you this year.  Some areas of interest include, but are not limited to, marketing and promotion, greeter orientation, and finding homes for the next year.  If you are interested in joining our team, please connect with Lynne Morrow at lynnemorrow1941@gmail.com or Frank Rinaldo at frank.r.rinaldo@gmail.com.  We would love some new energy and ideas on our team.

Monday Afternoon Games

First and third Monday of the month from 1:30-4pm, in the Parlour. Everyone is invited to participate, ladies or gentlemen.  Any questions, please speak with Jill.

Tuesday Evening Prayer Group 

The prayer group is pausing for the summer and will consider

when and how it will resume in September.

Property Survey

Over the next few weeks there will be a survey company onsite conducting a property survey for St. James, so if you notice surveyors onsite that is what they are doing. In addition, as required by local By-Laws there will be wheel stops (concrete curbs) placed in parking spaces that abutt neighbouring residential properties.

Update on the Garden Project

Last week the first phase of the Garden Project was been completed. On Friday a work crew from Meadowbrook arrived at 9 am, and worked during the day to remove shrubs and vegetation from the front gardens and scatter garden. They also created a garden along the fence next to the parlour. We now have a clean canvas for the landscape designer to create a plan for the gardens using native plants and shrubs, which will provide colour throughout the seasons. Once the design has been completed the Garden Committee will share the details with you. These plans will also include the scatter garden. The next phase will see further garden development with the addition of more soil and compost to the front gardens, as well as a new fence to replace the damaged one.

Call out for anyone with a key to the church building.  If you are not the head of a committee, please return your key as soon as possible.

Please don’t make Sam or Leslie have to come asking!

St. Matt’s Seniors support

Please consider donating non-perishable food or personal care items for St. Matt’s Seniors support program. Donations are collected in the white tower in the narthex.

Sunday Coffee Hour

Volunteers are needed to help with coffee/tea and fellowship after the Sunday services.

Could you help with one of the following:

1. set-up tables and chairs

                   2. set-up coffee / tea and cold drinks

                       3. clean up after (dishes, wiping tables)

      4. put away tables and chairs

Please sign up to help so we can continue to provide this hospitality, the sign-up sheet is in the narthex or speak to Terese Herron or Jill Regoeczi.

WEDNESDAY – COMPLINE – 9:15p.m. Compline is a short service of night prayer. The heart of Compline is the recitation of several psalms. There is a short reading from scripture, intercession, and time for reflection. It is a beautiful way to close out an active day. Compline is offered by St. James’ through Facebook to bring the community together. If you cannot join live, the service is available afterwards on St. James’ Facebook channel.

St. James Church – 100th Anniversary of the Church Building

Our quest for photographs and memorabilia continues. Do you have any photographs from the 1920s to the late 1970s? This is the time period that we have very few photographs. Please let Janet Cannon-Davison, Anne Washington or Isabella Guthrie-McNaughton know if you have photographs that could be loaned to the church for our Anniversary event.

Tom Atterton identified the “mystery” priest that was in a photograph in the recent “Belonging” Newsletter. It is Rev. Canon Paul Brillinger.  Thank you Tom!
