St. James' 50th Holiday House Tour is on Saturday December 5th!

As you prepare your late-summer and fall canning and preserves, set some jars aside for sale at the Holiday House Tour Market.  Please bring your donations to the Church Office.  Thank you.

Monday Afternoon Games

First and third Monday of the month from 1:30-4pm, in the Parlour. Everyone is invited to participate, ladies or gentlemen.  Any questions, please speak with Jill.

WEDNESDAY

COMPLINE – 9:15p.m. Compline is a short service of night prayer. The heart of Compline is the recitation of several psalms. There is a short reading from scripture, intercession, and time for reflection. It is a beautiful way to close out an active day. Compline is offered by St. James’ through Facebook to bring the community together. If you cannot join live, the service is available afterwards on St. James’ Facebook channel.

A small but mighty cleaning team was at the church last Saturday, doing an amazing job.  Thank you to John, Derrick, Godfrey, Sue, Emmanuel, and Terese, who cleaned carpets, wood furniture, and walls, and even repaired a few items. 

 We all appreciate your efforts!

There will be a Garage Sale on Saturday, August 29th from 8:30 to 11:00 am at 24 Lynden Avenue in Dundas.  There will be great stuff for sale at good prices. 

All proceeds will go to St James'. 

If you like a bargain, we will see you on the 29th bright and early!

Hearing Assist Testing

As someone who is legally hearing impaired, I often have difficulty with the sound system in the sanctuary. As an alternative, I go out to the narthex and sit under the speaker there because it is much more effective than the four similar speakers for the sanctuary. I can follow the service in the bulletin but the homily and prayers of the people (where there are  no written words to follow) are a significant issue for me. Also embarrassing to leave during the homily! However, there are alternatives! And, thankfully, our church leaders are looking into various options.

One of these options will be tested on SATURDAY, September 19^th probably in the morning. I hope you are interested in coming to be a part of this testing and trying your hearing aids out with the new technology. I can verify that I have used a couple of systems in different locations and found them to be wonderful in terms of the increase in what I can hear; AND, the technology is simple to use.

So, Saturday, September 19^th … WEAR your hearing aids and bring a cell phone with you. Please let the me or a warden or Terese Herron know if you will be attending.

Garden Project Update - August 24, 2026

The edging and cleanup of the gardens have been basically completed, with a few remaining spots to be completed once we receive our property survey from the surveyors. When we receive the property survey we will also be able to install a new fence along the property line near the Co-Op playground.

The next phase of the refurbishment of the scatter garden is also about to get underway. A new armor stone wall will be installed to create a terraced garden. This may involve the careful removal of soil, the soil’s storage during the construction, and the return of the soil to the garden once the wall has been completed. Once this has been completed, the landscape designer will be able to install the new plantings.

A part of the garden project also includes the installation of a lawn sprinkler system. RainTree will be on site in a few weeks to begin their work. Part of this work will involve coordination with the scatter garden project to install two sprinkler heads for the upper and lower levels of the garden.

Work on the design for the plantings in the other gardens are still in progress by the landscape designer.

Where Did I Put That Photograph?

We have discovered that there is a sizable gap in our House Tour photograph archives! Can you help us? Barry Shimmons has found that we have no photographs for the 1981 and the 2006 to 2022 House Tours.

100th Anniversary - St. James Building
