SERVICES AND GATHERINGS THIS WEEK

SUNDAY – This Sunday coming is the Day of Pentecost; it will be a busy Sunday with the Royal Canadian Legion with us to troop the colours, in honour of the 78th Anniversary of D-Day; our former Rector, Jim Sandilands will be with us as guest preacher. We will also offer special prayers for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth as her Platinum Jubilee will be all around us!

In honour of the feast day, we will also celebrate the graduation of parishioners who have completed he excellent EFM programme.

Pentecost is often characterized as the 'Church's Birthday' and one of its symbols, of course, is the fire of the spirit, descending upon us all. So, wear brightly coloured clothes - come ready for a party!! [ed comment … now, you’re talking my language … let’s ALL be there]

If, however, you are unable to be with us in person, links to the service and order of service are on our website stjamesdundas.ca and our Facebook page.

WEDNESDAY – COMPLINE - Compline is a short service of night prayer. The heart of Compline is the recitation of several psalms. There is a short reading from scripture, intercession, and time for reflection. It is a beautiful way to close out an active day. Compline is offered by St. James’ through Facebook to bring the community together. If you cannot join live, the service is available afterwards on St. James’ Facebook channel.

THURSDAY – Coffee Hour has now been transferred to Sunday after the regular service. Anyone still there after an hour gets a special privilege. J

CAN YOU HELP? WE WILL TRAIN (PART 1)

If a whole bunch/cluster/horde/team/crew/gang of people signed up for a Sunday set up and clean-up of coffee hour, it would sure make it easy for the rest of us. Please sign up in the Narthex or give Nyle a call at the church office to “reserve your spot”. You can choose to SET UP …. CLEAN UP … or BOTH.

CAN YOU HELP? WE WILL TRAIN (PART 2)

We could use the assistance of a youthful member of our church living nearby who would like to acquire some VOLUNTEER HOURS this summer. You would help in emptying the five or six dehumidifiers in the church on a regular basis would be of great assistance – maybe 2 or three days per week. We can help with training (e.g. where to dump the water and how to make sure the float is working) and we are open to working around YOUR schedule. DOWN EAST KITCHEN PARTY

Wasn’t that a party! Congratulations to Maureen and the great team that worked so hard to put together the Kitchen Party on Saturday night at the SHED. The effort sure paid off in terms of fellowship! Great silent auction! Music was exceptional and foot-tapping fun! Pizza was wonderful. Update on the financial success to follow! This was a great way to reach out to the community for St. James.

AND … A REFLECTION …. FOR THE WEEK

Wild Geese by Mary Oliver

You do not have to be good.

You do not have to walk on your knees

For a hundred miles through the desert repenting.

You only have to let the soft animal of your body

Love what it loves.

Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine

Meanwhile the world goes on.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain

Are moving across the landscapes

Over the prairies and the deep trees,

The mountains and the rivers.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,

Are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

The world offers itself to your imagination,

Calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting

Over and over, announcing your place

In the family of things.
