Kenyan Welcome

Over the last month there have been a significant number of asylum seekers from Kenya arriving in Hamilton. Many have found themselves in shelters and some are left unsheltered. Local Anglican churches wish to offer welcome and support.

The plan is to provide a meal, take the opportunity for church leaders to introduce themselves, with an open invitation to worship in our communities, and to provide a small supportive gift. The hope is that all churches in the region might feel able to support this effort in some way. The meal will take place at All Saints Mission, Hamilton.

Each person who attends will receive a ‘gift bag’ of personal necessities.

To that end we are seeking donations of:

· Toothbrushes

· Toothpaste

· Deodorant

· Wet wipes (small packs only)

· Face towels

· Re-useable grocery bags

· Reusable Water bottles (new only)

· Protein Bars and individually packaged snacks.

· Socks (new only)

Items need to be dropped off to St. James by noon on September 5th so they can be delivered and packed into kits. Financial gifts to cover the associated costs would also be welcome. Please note that any left-over items will be donated toward either the Cathedral Café or to the Indigenous Drop-In Centre for the homeless. If you have any questions please contact Nora or Lynn through the church office. 905-627-1424 or stjamesdundas@outlook.com

Returning This Fall

EfM (Education for Ministry)

Education for Ministry (EfM) was founded in 1975 to recognise that Christian ministry is not restricted to clergy, but is the vocation of all the baptised. EfM exists to provide laypeople with resources to help you carry out your ministry in all areas of your life. It offers small-group studies of the Bible, Church History, Ethics and Interfaith Relations, along with the practice of theological reflection. The St. James group meets from September to May on Monday evenings, via Zoom and with some in-person gatherings. There is also preparatory reading involved. Help with annual fees is available. Please speak to Peter D. or Carleon H. for more information about this program, which many describe as transformative. Contact them through the office.

Both EfM and Revive have proven to be transformative for participants. And both welcome people who have questions about, and wish to explore, the Christian faith.

'Singing out' to future Choir Members

As a follow-up to last Sunday's announcement regarding the resumption of Choir Rehearsals (start back date on Thursday, September 7th at 7:30 pm) we are actively recruiting for new members for all sections of the Choir (SATB). It is said that Augustine, a Catholic Priest, coined the phrase 'those who sing, pray twice'. There is an immediate need for 4 new Sopranos. With regards to the Alto, Tenor, and Bass sections, it would be helpful to be able to read music. There is an urgent need for an increase of 2 Altos, 2 Tenors and 3 Basses. Please remember, those who sing in a Choir always have a parking spot, and sit in some of the best seats in the building. Great comradery from being in a close-knit team of people who love to sing.

If you are interested in joining the Choir, or know of someone who love to sing and is interested in joining the Choir please contact Richard Hansen, Organist and Choir Director at (905)-627-1424 or stjamesdundas@outlook.com
