Tuesday Evening Prayer
The Tuesday evening prayer group has evolved. We are now meeting in a hybrid format. You are welcome to join on Tuesday evening at 6:15 in the parlour at St. James, or through Zoom at the same time. If you would like to join via Zoom, please email Dana on Tuesdays by 4:00pm to receive the Zoom meeting link. The meeting is a combination of prayer and discussion of either a devotional or a passage from scripture. We look forward to welcoming you.
WEDNESDAY – COMPLINE – 9:15 p.m.
Compline is a short service of night prayer. The heart of Compline is the recitation of several psalms. There is a short reading from scripture, intercession, and time for reflection. It is a beautiful way to close out an active day. Compline is offered by St. James’ through Facebook to bring the community together. If you cannot join live, the service is available afterwards on St. James’ Facebook channel.

Trivia Night
Trivia Night is coming up on October 18th. Bob is providing the Trivia. It will be a fantastic social evening! Volunteers are being sought to plan, set-up, help during the event, and for clean-up. If you are interested in helping or being on a small committee to finalize plans for this fun event please contact Terese.
Help with Small Tasks Around Building
Are you a handy sort of person? St. James could really use your skills to assist with small tasks around the building such as mounting sign holders, repairing door stoppers, mounting toilet paper holders, general fix it or repair it items. If you could offer a couple of hours a week please contact Terese.

Holiday House Tour 2025
The sale of jams, jellies and preserves are a popular sales item on the day of the Holiday House Tour. If you are interested in donating your homemade jams, jellies or preserves, it would be greatly appreciated and enjoyed. Please drop them off at the church office at your convenience.
Can you think of a local business that may be interested in being a sponsor for the House Tour? The three levels of sponsorship include an advertisement in the House Tour brochure, tickets to the House Tour and recognition on the church website. Please contact Janet Cannon-Davison at Janet.e.a.cannon@gmail.com and she will reach out to the potential sponsor. Individual sponsors are also welcome. Sponsorship fees are used to off-set costs related to the House Tour.
A reminder that this year, the House Tour is on Saturday, December 6th. Please think about how you would like to help in the preparations leading up to December 6th and on House Tour Day. Sign-up sheets will be available at a later date.
Our most effective way to publicize the House Tour is word of mouth. Please remind your friends and family to plan for this special day. Ticket go on sale on November 1st on-line and at ticket outlets.
Watch for information about the House Tour in this section. If you have any questions, please speak to Lynne, Frank or any member of the House Tour Committee.

Truth & Reconciliation: A Call to Learning and Action
St. Paul’s Anglican Church – Westdale
1140 King Street West
Hamilton ON
(disabled access via Haddon Avenue doors; otherwise via King Street West doors)
St. Paul’s in Westdale has been making a territorial acknowledgement at the beginning of worship services and parish meetings for quite some time. We held a Doctrine of Discovery film night. We have also observed the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation during special worship services with two prominent Indigenous church leaders in our diocese as preachers for the past couple of years. This year we are striving to learn more, preparing ourselves for seeking to establish relationships with local Indigenous people and organizations. Truth and reconciliation for those of us who are members of the colonizing society involves us taking responsibility for our own education and engaging in reflection and action on the Calls to Action arising from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. And so we are now holding a special faith nurture programme on Thursday afternoons, September 18 through October 16 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the church parlour (except where noted differently on October 2 & 9).
September 18 – Dr. Elisabeth Gedge – Where are we? How did we get here? – Pathways to colonial violence and injustice and the Calls for Justice of the Report on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
September 25 – The Rev’d Jann Brooks, St. Paul’s, Caledonia – Relating to Indigenous communities in Manitoba and Six Nations, Ontario
October 2 – McMaster’s Indigenous Circle and Gathering Place – a field trip (not too far) to a space on campus dedicated to learning, reconciliation and remembrance of indigenous people and histories now erased from this land
October 9 – KAIROS Blanket Exercise – a powerful experiential learning workshop led by facilitators from KAIROS, the Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives coalition, hosted by the
Rev’d Dr. Charles Meeks (held in the nave of the church)
October 16 – The Venerable Terry DeForest – some Reflections on what we have learned and where we will go next
Please register your intention to participate by September 14 by emailing or phoning the church office: stpauls-westdale@cogeco.net (905) 528-3724. Since there are some costs to convening this programme, participants are invited to consider making a contribution of $25. However, cost is not intended to be a barrier, so your presence will be a significant contribution in itself.
