Tuesday Evening Prayer
The Tuesday evening prayer group has evolved. We are now meeting in a hybrid format. You are welcome to join us Tuesday evening at 6:15 in person in the parlour at St. James, or through Zoom at the same time.
If you would like to join via Zoom, please contact the office on Tuesdays by 4:00pm at stjamesdundas@outlook.com to receive the Zoom meeting link.
The meeting is a combination of prayer and discussion of either a devotional or a passage from scripture. We look forward to welcoming you.
WEDNESDAY – COMPLINE – 9:15 p.m. Compline will remain at 9:15 for the time being! Compline is a short service of night prayer. The heart of Compline is the recitation of several psalms. There is a short reading from scripture, intercession, and time for reflection. It is a beautiful way to close out an active day. Compline is offered by St. James’ through Facebook to bring the community together. If you cannot join live, the service is available afterwards on St. James’ Facebook channel.

We are also seeking an individual to play the keyboard and/or piano at the Amica service. Please speak with Canon Leslie if you are able to help out with this important and rewarding ministry.

Share Your Musical Gifts This Advent!
Advent is almost here—and we want YOU to be part of making this season extra special! If you’re musically gifted (whether you sing, play an instrument, or have another musical talent), we’d love for you to share your gift with the congregation.
This is your chance to help lead us in worship and create a joyful, beautiful atmosphere as we prepare for Christ’s coming. Whatever your gift is, we want to hear from you – young and old alike!
Interested? Be in touch by November 17th by reaching out to the church office at 905-627-1424 or email stjamesdundas@outlook.com, and we’ll take it from there!
Let’s make this Advent a meaningful experience together!

NEWCOMER MINISTRY
During the past year St. James has been blessed with a significant number of newcomers. A host family program is being developed where each newcomer is matched with a church member or family. The goal of the program is to help us get to know each other and assist newcomers with integrating into the community. If you are able to engage in this project you will be matched with a single or small group of newcomers. The expectation is that you get to know them and are available to answer questions, call them once a week and have them to your home once a month. Please contact Lynn or Marline if you would like to participate.
Questions that often arise relate to what newcomers might need. The following list is always required: Beds and small tables, chairs and small sofas, fabric and sewing machines, tools, computers, flat screen TV, microwave, iron or ironing board, blenders, toasters, bar fridges, suitcases with rollers, stereo equipment, pots and pans, cutlery, everyday dishes. Our newcomers greatly appreciate the wonderful generosity of the St. James congregation and talk about the church being their home.
One newcomer has secured a job close to Clappison Corners and needs to find a new home. If anyone is aware of a room in the Dundas or Waterdown area please be in touch. He will make a mature responsible tenant. Contact Terese or Lynn via the office 905-627-1424 or stjamesdundas@gmail.com
Did you know…?
In response to the ever-present housing crisis and to provide a warm and welcoming experience to friends in need, the Cathedral Café, in partnership with St. Matthew's House, The City of Hamilton, and Hamilton Out of the Cold, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Their commitment includes providing 2 meals per day - a continental style breakfast from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and lunch from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. In addition, guests have access to washrooms, relief from inclement weather, and a variety of activities, services, and programs.
For many years St. James, along with other local churches, have helped those in need by providing a community meal and ensuring they find assistance. The Cathedral Café provides over 200 meals a day.
Over the next three weeks, the outreach committee is asking everyone to contribute to a collection of food in front of the altar until it is overflowing with items to share with the Cathedral Café. The most needed items are:
Canned beans Peanut butter Rice Noodles Instant oatmeal Coffee Hot chocolate Granola bars Cans of tuna Cookies
The needs out there are great and we are often asked to help others. The Cathedral has helped St. James in many ways so let’s reciprocate and build a mountain of food to feed hungry tummies.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
From Nov 8 – 15, St. James will be having a film crew onsite which will greatly affect the use of the parking lot. They have promised to leave the accessible parking clear along with 8 other spots during weekdays (some of those will be taken by the Preschool staff 8:30am -5pm) For those of you who have no mobility concerns it would be appreciated if you could park on the street and thereby save the spots near the church for others that need to be close. Also, Melville Street will be closed Nov 13 and the only access to the church will be via Victoria Street. If you can avoid coming to the church during the street closure it would be less frustrating for you altogether. Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.
