Meet our June Artist: Carol Priamo
Carol Priamo Artist Statement
Inspired by historic architecture and her travels, Carol has combined her art practices in photography, printmaking and collage to develop a new direction in mixed media collage - multi-layered, tapestry-like compositions of surrealistic expression.
โ
Incorporating both traditional and digital collage techniques, disparate elements are combined and transformed to create a new and surprising ‘reality’. This process of transmuting raw materials into a unified work is unpredictable and alchemic. Exploration and experimentation are key to pursuing and realizing her creative expression.
โ
Over the past twenty years, Carol’s award-winning work has been exhibited in Hamilton, Los Angeles, Victoria, Vancouver, and Toronto, published in magazines and widely collected. With a graduate degree from the University of Toronto, her career in arts and heritage includes heritage conservationist, museum curator, teacher, and graphic designer. And she is the author of two books on Canada’s architectural heritage.
โ
Many of Carol’s artworks incorporate, in an innovative way, the aesthetic character of buildings in our everyday environment to create a surprising and engaging vision of an altered reality.

Carol Priamo Bio
Carol Priamo is a Hamilton-based artist who has exhibited her photography, collage, and mixed media art in Hamilton, Vancouver and Toronto for the past twenty years. She holds an M. Arts from the University of Toronto, has studied design at the Ontario College of Art and Design and mixed media collage with top artists in Canada and the U.S.
โ
With her long-time passion for architecture and design, her raw materials are her own photographic images drawn from the urban environment. She selects, manipulates, and transforms these images using hands on and digital tools to produce multi-layered, tapestry-like montages of vibrant colour, pattern and texture. Through a process of experimentation and discovery, she transforms disparate elements into a seamless altered reality – a new urban vision that challenges our perception and engages our curiosity.
โ
An author and long-time advocate of heritage preservation, Carol’s artworks present, in an innovative way, the inherent beauty, underlying order, and endless variety of the unique architectural character of our everyday environment.
